PARIS FASHION WEEK: SUNDAY ROSE KIDMAN URBAN MAKES SUPREMELY STUNNING DEBUT ON THE RUNWAY.
In the City of Light—where the fashion elite assemble to view the newest masterpieces of haute couture—a young starlet has made a name for herself by capturing all the headlines and hearts among the industry’s moguls and true fans. Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, the 16-year-old daughter of Hollywood royalty Nicole Kidman and musical virtuoso Keith Urban—and a prodigy in her own right—made her runway debut during Paris Fashion Week at the most recent iteration of the illustrious Mumu Show. Draped in the elegance of a Parisian vision, Sunday walked with the stunning rhythm of a seasoned model, and the interconnected worlds of fashion and fame let loose the buzz they so love to generate. Still, for all the deeply felt emotions of pride and affirmation associated with that moment, far more special is the story of the woman on the verge of a style career (and a healthy dose of nerves, too).
In an exclusive interview with Vogue, Sunday opened up about feeling nervous before her debut fashion show. The 15-year-old daughter of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban shared the pivotal moment that helped her find the confidence to go ahead and live out her dream of modeling. “We’re at the Mumu Show in Paris,” Sunday began. “And we did some shopping—because how could you not come to Paris and not shop?” Already, she had her audience enraptured with the whimsical delight of living in the moment. Even her speaking is infused with the warmth and charm one might expect from a budding young model. While her father was on tour in Europe, during the summer of 2022, Kidman and Urban took their daughter with them to Paris.
This self-assured teenager has been biding her time, waiting for just the right moment to formally step into the sparkling realm of high fashion. Last June, Sunday made her entrance at the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week, accompanied by her stunning mother, Nicole Kidman, and her mother’s best friend, the even more stunning Naomi Watts. Mom had hesitated to let Sunday into the world of fashion at such a tender age, figuring she was too young to grasp the moment for what it was worth. Eventually, Kidman let her daughter have this one experience. In speaking with Victoria Beckham for the latest issue of Vogue Australia, Kidman said, “Everything is motivated by wanting to take care of your children and carve a path for them with a sense of morality and dignity.”
Now that Sunday has turned 16, her Parisian adventure with her mother at Fashion Week has come to an end, but the memories continue to glimmer. The pair of them next attended the Omega event “Her Time” to celebrate women’s watches, where cables of “electrical” energy flowed between mom and daughter to light up the event. Not words like “glamorous” or “poised,” but “electrical” was the first to come to my mind when thinking about the kind of energy that Sunday Rose Kidman Urban has when she steps into a room. At Fashion Week, she was the “it girl.”
One inside source at Fashion Week said, “Sunday is not just a rose by name—she’s a rose blooming in the very heart of high fashion, and the world is her runway.” Such profound phrasing must be justified, and in the case of Fashion Week, it certainly is, as moments here are moments made.
Natalie Portman would never be packaged like this. And while Julie Andrews would be graciously, if not believably, forthcoming in accepting the kind of “era defined” praise that follows every Sunday Kidman Urban appearance, the packaging is a Hollywood thing. And so is the moment that follows.
