Actor Eva Mendes, the long-time partner of Ryan Gosling, and star in such films as *The Place Beyond the Pines*, recently made a shocking and gut-bustingly funny confession on *The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon*. Even though Mendes earns widespread admiration and respect for her riveting performances, it seems her daughters Esmeralda and Amada might not feel that way—or they certainly don’t express it in the same way her fans do! Mendes can hardly get through a scene from the family-friendly comedy *Hitch* without cracking up, and she’s shared with us why she finds it so funny—and the reason surprisingly has a lot to do with her fam!
Eva attempted to show her kids a scene from *Hitch* that she was “actually proud of,” but the presentation fizzled. Supposedly inspirational, the moment features Mama confronting her deepest fears—hardly an engaging premise for the preschool set. Instead, Eva’s daughters reacted to her attempt at sharing familial cinematic history with all the excitement of a drab home movie. It’s not much of a leap to figure that *Hitch* hasn’t penetrated the playroom as much as Daddy Gosling’s starring role in the family fave *Barbie*. According to Eva, “the girls were such a huge part of him saying yes and taking the role… there was something there.” Hold your judgment! Either way, imaginations are swept up, Barbies do rule, and pop-culture royalty reigns once more in their household!
How do Hollywood’s most secretive stars manage their family dynamics? Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are famously tight-lipped about their private lives and have made headlines for keeping their daughters out of the public eye—for the most part. The “power couple” enjoyed a rare public outing yesterday, sitting with their kids at the electrifying women’s gymnastics uneven bars final at the Paris Olympics. Although it is likely that the Mendes-Gosling family would have been shown during this well-watched event, NBC chose not to air them. Indeed, they seemed to respect the family’s request for privacy. So what do you guys think? Are you loving the Mendes-Gosling family a little more now? Is that a little raspberries to the Olympic cameras?
And there you have it, ladies and gents. Next time Esmeralda and Amada choose to engage in a Barbie-emo dance-off instead of following in Mama’s award-winning film footsteps, you know where to credit the idea. This was an adventure in parenting that I had not yet seen on record; however, with the always entertaining Eva and Ryan, anything is possible. I can’t wait for their next viral Hollywood reveal. You know it will be something shocking and new.
And until then, all we can do is hold on to our Ken dolls, because their legendary mom is setting a new standard for parenting in the Hollywood framework.
