New York City has a new sensation, and that sensation is Emily Ratajkowski. Following a recent incident of body shaming, where someone told the supermodel to “put on a shirt” while she was walking her dog, Rakowski decided to respond. Let me start by saying that the way this gorgeous woman decided to reply is iconic. If you haven’t seen it yet, go watch her TikTok. She looks stunning (as always) while maintaining an incredibly confident presence that is so impossible to ignore. The model captions the video with “famously not demure, famously not mindful,” which doubles as a nod to the video itself and a dig at different controversial behaviors that people have been going viral for lately.
Emily has tackled these issues before. In an August 2022 interview with Marie Claire, she talked about the obsession over women’s bodies. She asked, “When will we value women for who they are and what they do instead of just how they look?” In her usual thought-provoking and articulate way, she made the important point that whether a woman is famous for being in film or for being in sports, the world tends to assign a tremendous amount of value to her body and her image, as if those things alone were the full measure of her worth. “Your body and image are still a huge part of who you are and how the world values women,” she said. “I know this is a rub, and I’m saying it, and it’s touchy.”
