Fans are having a hard time processing the birthday bash that Hollywood legend Robert De Niro just had. The 81-year-old superstar celebrated by hurtling from a daring height into the ocean, video of which has gone totally viral. De Niro’s wild jump off of a 36-foot yacht has people talking—mostly because they can’t believe the octogenarian pulled off such a death-defying stunt.
An Instagram post shared by Drena De Niro shows the legendary actor vaulting through the air and into the open water below. “Woo! He’s so crazy! Oh my God, oh my God! Are you all right?” exclaimed Drena as her father came up for air. The post shows the words “What a guy!” splashed in font across the photo. Her father clearly is nuts, in the best way possible.
De Niro has taken to the waters before. Another video shows him gingerly entering the water in the shallows, which, for those of us who know a little about these things, is a step in the right direction when you’re preparing to dive headfirst into an ocean of criticism. But when was the last time you saw a Hollywood studio executive in a family photo? On the left is one of De Niro’s grandchildren. On the right is Drena De Niro with Drena’s late son, Leandro, to whom the birthday tribute was also dedicated.
Yet, not just the ocean holds surprises for Raging Bull star Robert De Niro. Life has been bestowing him with many new adventures, and some of those have required him to don the “Got Milk?” apron. That’s correct. Last year, De Niro became a father again at the ripe old age of 68 when he fathered a daughter, Gia, with girlfriend Tiffany Chen. So good luck finding a youthful dive or two in his life, because the De Niro household doesn’t seem to have any free time.
Robert De Niro has all the feelings we sometimes wish we could have—adorable, sweet, and even nostalgic birthday party feelings—at his daughter Gia’s first birthday party. And judging from the party pics, of which there are too many for this space, the cake was also cute. But I really have to stress that Robert De Niro, the man, serves as a potent reminder that true adventure knows no age. When you think about it—and I have been—he’s living out a kind of action hero life that his fans, including me, never knew we needed. Keep going, Robert!
